You may or may not have gathered but we're pretty obsessed about all things edible - and a few more things too! As we regularly stumble upon some great finds, food or no, and we thought we'd share our favourites with you!
I am delighted about my latest purchase with this Green Housekeeping book I purchased the other week. Trying to be more ecologically and sustainably conscious at home and particularly in the kitchen is something I continuously strive for.
The author Christina Strutt shares how it’s possible to clean a house ecologically and minimally. She uses nothing more than lemons, baking soda, vinegar, and plain water and showcases the most effective ways to do so according to different needs.
One study shared in the book that caught my eye shows that wooden chopping boards are more hygienic than plastic ones!
That's right, unlike plastic, wood has natural antibacterial properties. It causes bacteria to disappear quickly beneath the surface of the board and die within three minutes. Germs on plastic boards, on the other hand, remained alive but also multiplied overnight in the study. Obviously, you'd still need to wash your wooden boards and ideally would want a different board for bread and vegetables and one for meat. But how fascinating!
There is much more too, with tricks on composting, preserving fruits and jams medicinal herbs amongst other helpful solutions for your home.
Are you also aiming to be more eco-conscious and have a more sustainable home? Let me know if you have any great tips!
